Please support our work and activitites for the coming year
The annual Oceania Somali Week Soccer Tournament and Community Festival is a not-for-profit community based annual event held annually in different cities across Australia and New Zealand. It is a very important time of the year for the Somali diaspora living in Australia and New Zealand.
The annual Somali Week event will showcase the best of Somali arts and culture, both old and new. As well as a mix of events including poetry (gabay), literature, panel discussions (in Somali and English), local and international guest speakers and performers, documentary film screenings, street theatre, market fair stalls and most importantly a 12 team annual soccer competition with teams playing for the chance to be crowned Oceania Somali Week Champions.
The inaugural annual Somali Week event in 2014 will be held in Melbourne, Australia.
Our objectives and vision through this annual community event is to unite our diverse Somali peoples as one single united body seeking and working for the betterment of our peoples in the Oceania region and uplift those back home through community capacity building projects. The annual Somali Week Soccer Tournament and Community Festival will explore a variety of themes in the coming years.
The annual Oceania Somali Week Soccer Tournament and Community Festival is organised, managed and facilitated by Somalis for Somalis. All our volunteers are enthusiastic young Somali-Australian and New Zealanders who are active citizens and who wish to make a difference and inspire future generations. We wish to also acknowledge the tireless efforts of many of our non-Somali brothers and sisters who give their time and energy in making this event possible every year. From our generous sponsors to local councils and anyone else who welcomes our community with open arms.
Several interstate and New Zealand based teams have affiliated with Somali Week Oceania and they will be taking part in this annual community event.
The annual Oceania Somali Week Soccer Tournament and Community Festival will endeavour to do our very best to meet our community needs through this annual event. We will approach Somali and non-Somali companies, organisations and individuals who will be willing to make a contribution of some sort in assisting us to run this annual event. There is so much we want to do for our community but without funds this will be impossible.
This event will not be possible without the close ties with various sporting clubs who are Somali friendly, local Councilors and Mayors, Premiers of States, Members of Parliament and other important government officials all over Australia and New Zealand. The annual Oceania Somali Week Soccer Tournament will endeavour to secure much needed funds through grants and sponsorships annually as well as in-kind support in order to successfully run this week long event. Please refer to Sponsorship package for more information.
